When presenting Agile metrics to stakeholders who aren’t familiar with Agile, I focus on clarity and relevance. The key is to translate these metrics into what they mean for the stakeholders in terms of project progress, risks, and outcomes. For example, when presenting a burn-down chart, I start with, 'This chart shows how much work we’ve completed versus what’s left. The goal is for this line to go down to zero by the end of the Sprint.'
For example, in a past project, our stakeholders were new to Agile. During our Sprint Reviews, we presented the Burn-up chart showing Velocity and the Burn-down chart showing effort remaining. I mentioned, "We completed 10 user stories this sprint, which means we’re getting closer to delivering the new feature set you’re looking forward to. We encountered a blocker with the database integration, which is reflected in stagnation in the burndown chart, which was later resolved and the line went down linearly'.
By translating metrics into their impact on the project, I helped stakeholders understand the importance of it.
