[.Been cooke] What is so frightening about "keywords" from the Scrum guide to you?

There's nothing wrong with asking a candidate to explain something in plain, simple language, as you want an idea of how they can relate to people they may encounter in their work.

Specifically, asking them to exclude language from a deliberately simplistic guide might have them missing the purpose of the question.

I was at a client away day once, where the local agile community had prepared a speech. Beforehand, they said to the audience, "We're going to include three practices in our speech that aren't agile. At the end, we'll ask you to tell us what they are".

Some of the room got the practice but didn't pay attention to anything else they said in the speech, including the useful stuff. The rest didn't know enough to participate in the game and were baffled by the whole exercise.

The 10-15 minutes this took contributed nothing to the day's purpose except the growing alienation of the profession inside that large organisation.

[Yagna Narayana Sarma Alur] Kabaddi is such a classic example you can see team huddle up and all have role to play for team success. They all have one common goal, coach will be monitoring from outside and facilities when required.

[Vivek Jadhav] Though many scenario questions how you explain agile to your granny, Son and all. This is the best way to ask this question. But nowadays, most of the freshers are aware of Agile as they now have its in their curriculum.

[Ayushi Garg] Basically team will work on a set of features/requirements for a fixed duration (two weeks probably) and development/testing will happen in that duration. The aim will be to deliver those set of features at the end of this duration. Team will find out the mistakes/improvement areas in this duration and ensure to improve in next similar duration.

[Jinu Mathew] While I like the cricket and kabbadi example; I’m Indian and have never played nor watched either. So my answer to cricket question would have put the coach in a tough position. So, I think I wouldvpull up a video of rugby/cricket/whatever team that looks like they use scrum and ask the viewer to note what they think the team did to be successful. I find more value in guiding a student to his own answers and then highlighting their answers as the fundamentals that make up the scrum framework. Experiential and visual learning are the way to go. Similarly to teach WIP limits, id use the coin flipping video and ask for observations.
