Developers are suggesting that as they are collaborating throughout the day and inspecting their progress, the Daily Scrum is redundant. What will be your approach to discuss with the developers?

[Ravi Wray] Another point here is, in my experience I have had some team members who are introvert but have great ideas, also there are people who make notes of the discussions and observations through the day and bring up during the meeting. As an Agilist/ facilitator it's our responsibility to bring up those ideas and points to the front. So even if we think we may not anything to discuss things may come up. Even if it's not 3 questions to answer we surely need this meetings to summarise, check impediments, bring up ideas etc.

[Kumar Kunal] Will ask them to include myself in those calls where they are collaborating outside of the daily scrum . Silently observe the calls for a few days to understand if the purpose of the daily scrum is already being solved through those.

If the answer to majority of the purpose is yes , can cancel the daily scrum and let these calls run suggesting small improvements from time to time.

If the answer is NO , can coach them on the purpose the daily scrum should solve and then let them decide if they want to incorporate those improvements in their collaboration call or try and perfect them as part of the daily scrum itself.

[Eddi Phou] Does it take so much hassle to have everyone on the same call for 5 minutes and say, "We're good"?

If yes, get rid of the Daily Standup Meeting and observe how things develop. If their approach of "collaborating throughout the day and inspecting their progress" fails, bring it back during a retrospective to solve the issue. The goal of the DSM is to support developers in their daily tasks, not to add extra pressure to their workload.
Are we here to police Scrum or to deliver value? Time to think differently.

[Sahana KS] Daily scrum is time boxed to 15 mins with many benefits attached to this daily connect for the dev team, I am not sure how this small time boxed event in a day is affecting so much to the developer to think it is redundant. There may be chances that other collaborations throughout the day may not be with the complete team or may not be with any set agenda. I suggest here there is a need to evaluate whether daily scrum conducted by SM is in the right way and whether it is time boxed and evaluate whether the team is using this time as an opportunity to reflect and then take a call to plan how to make this event effective!!!
